    Xian Visa Application Centre temporarily closed due to power outage

    There is a power outage from municipal transmission line at a nearest substation and this has caused temporary shutdown of our office building. The office is in no position to accept visa applications today (15 May 2017). Power grid authorities are working to restore the power and the news of restoration of normal services will be published soon on our website. We regret for the inconvenience caused.

    Please be careful of touts and agents when you visit the visa application centers. We have received reports that they offer their services claiming to be an officer of the visa application center and charge exorbitant prices for services which are either provided for free at the visa application center or at very nominal prices.  Please note that the visa application center or the Embassies do not endorse any agency or agents and cannot be held responsible for their actions.

    The launch of Joint Visa Application Centre-Xian, Joint Visa Application Centre –Chongqing, Joint Visa Application Centre -Hangzhou

    The Embassy of Austria in Beijing and the Consulate General of Austria in Shanghai are pleased to announce the launch of Joint Visa Application Centre-Xi’an, Chongqing and Hangzhou on 5 April 2016. Joint Visa Application Centre –Shenyang, Wuhan, Changsha and Chengdu on 8 April 2016, Joint Visa Application Centre –Jinan, Shenzhen and Fuzhou on 15 April 2016,Joint Visa Application Centre –Nanjing and Kunming on 22 April 2016.

    Applicants wishing to apply for a visa at the Austrian Visa Application Centre must visit in

    person to provide their biometric data as per the VIS rules. In case it is a child under the

    age of 12 or if it is physically impossible, she/he need not come for submission in person.

    From 1 May 2014 the Austrian visa application centre in Shanghai will change processes in an effort to further improve the customer journey. From this date applicants can submit their visa application without the need to make a prior appointment. Group applications (more than 5 applications) can be submitted between 12:00 and 14:00.

    Business visa applicants holding an invitation (original or copy) from an Austrian company or an EVE or a GVE and who have held 3 Schengen visas within the last 2 years can authorize a representative to submit the visa application on their behalf. The representative will need to carry an ordinary authorization letter issued by applicant and his/her ID card in order to submit the application at the visa application centre.

    Applicants are reminded that they are responsible for ensuring that application forms are correctly completed and that information is accurate. The Austrian Consulate in Shanghai will refuse applications if information contained within the form is found to be inaccurate, even if completed by an agent/representative.

    From 25 June 2013, Austrian Visa Application Centre (VAC) in Shanghai will accept Slovenia Schengen Visa (Type C) application on behalf of Austrian Consulate General in Shanghai.

    Applicants need to take prior appointment to submit their application at the VAC. To fix an appointment, please contact our helpdesk +86 (21) 33661347 between 8:00am to 15:00pm (Monday-Friday; Except for weekends and public holidays) or write to us on infosha.autcn@vfshelpline.com.

    Attention: Guarantee should submit standard form of formal obligation letter as provided for by Slovenia's national legislation (Article 24 of the Aliens Act). Formal obligation letter must be legalized by Administrative Unit in Slovenia.

    The Consulate General of Austria warns applicants of taking assistance and consultations from any kind of unauthorized agents - especially agents offering such services outside the Embassy, Consulate General and Visa Application Centre entrances. Neither the Consulate General nor the Visa Application Centre approve of such services and shall not assume any responsibility for the information provided by such agents.

    It is expressively warned about the use of services offered by visa agents (who usually charge high amounts for assistance in obtaining a visa) as their services might be often associated with illegal and unlawful practices. The visa applicant may then be confronted by rejection of the visa application as well as the refusal of a visa by all other Schengen-Embassies/Consulates.

    Please note that scheduling an appointment to submit your application at the Visa Application Centre Shanghai is FREE OF COST. No additional money should be paid to anyone for this service. You can also call the helpline number (Shanghai: 0086-21-33661347) to make an appointment. You need to give the name of the applicant and the passport number.

    Please note that due to security reasons we don’t allow access to anybody other than applicants inside the Austrian Visa Application Centre. The only exceptions to this policy are those accompanying children under 18 years old or those who have held previous 6 months or one year multiple entries Schengen Visa, issued by the General Consulate of Austria in Shanghai, can submit their application through agent/representative who holds an authorization letter issued by applicant.

    Austrian Visa Application Centre has been appointed by the Austrian Ministry for European and International Affairs as a collection agent for visa applications with effect from 18 April 2012 in Beijing and Shanghai and Guangzhou.
